Nail Varnishes - What's trending this Spring / Summer 2019?
We hear about clothing and shoe trends all the time but what about our nails?
Our nails are a reflection of our personality, our tastes, and our interests. Not to mention, showcasing a trendy, beautiful set of nails is the perfect way to incorporate fashion into our everyday looks, even when we're at work or asleep - remember fashion never sleeps!
So, what are the nail varnish trends this spring and summer, and how can you copy them in your own unique way?
Here are our top picks of the best nail trends that have been taking the industry by storm.
Glittery nails
We all love glitter, and we're so glad that it's making a big comeback this year. This look gives an almost festival, party vibe – providing glitz and glam wherever you go. It's a great way to easily incorporate glitter and fun into your look.
We've fallen in love with confetti glitter polish - it looked so much better than we ever envisioned, and it’s so effortless and easy. Just swipe on the glitter on it’s own or over a solid colour, and you’re ready to go.
Almond nails
Almond colour polish is beautiful, effortless and elegant. Almond nail polishes are predominately off-white colours, sometimes shades of brown. Choose your shade of almond based on how eye-catching you want your nails to look.
Something that we've fallen in love with is a 'marbled' almond look. Something that you can attempt to recreate yourself if you’re feeling patient. It's definitely a statement piece but looks too good to not try it.
Metallic
This is a trend that we don't see fizzling out any time soon. Over winter, metallic nails became quite popular and now that summer is here, there are new metallics to try.
In winter, the main colour trends were darker shade, like maroons and navy. For spring and summer, the colours are lighter. Think pastel pinks, blues, and yellows. These colours look so insanely gorgeous, especially in metallic colours.
One metallic that we're absolutely obsessed with is the iridescent look. We can totally imagine these at festivals, stealing the show.
Sprinkle of sparkle
It might not be for everybody, but the sparkle is a big trend this year. Whether it's on clothes, in hair, or makeup. Nails are no exception.
In the words of the late designer Kate Spade "leave a little sparkle wherever you go." We think this perfectly explains the sparkle trend.
Don't think of it like glitter. There's nothing wrong with glitter nails, but the sparkle is a little bit different. It's like a dusting on the nail. You can achieve it by dotting on metallic nail varnish with a toothpick.
Our favourite version of this is a nude nail, with a tiny little sprinkle of silver sparkle on top. It's beautiful.
A touch of art
Let your artistic juices flow. It's basically a bare nail, with a little touch of art. This is actually really easy to do, as it's just a simple design printed or drawn on your nail.
The best way to do this, seamlessly, is by picking a really bare nail colour like a clear or nude base. Remember, the artwork doesn't have to be anything obscure - just a print or little flower will suffice. It looks super beautiful and is just a pop of something special. Remember, practice makes perfect!
White
White nails, with no further additions or patterns are a simple, beautiful look. Clean, virginal and surprisingly eye-catching.
This year, the white nail trend leans towards a creamier white. Even a pinker white is expected to be a big trend. White nails are also a great blank canvas if you ever feel like getting creative one day too.
Yellow
What colour better describes spring and summer than yellow? We know, it might trigger a Devil Wears Prada / Miranda "ground-breaking" moment. But who are we to judge a nail trend?
The shade of yellow you choose for your nails is entirely up to you. Pastel, neon, metallic...yellow nails have a surprising amount of options. We have seen many yellow nails this spring, and the majority of them were short and medium nails. Long, yellow nails can also look very dramatic, if that's what you're going for!
Black and white
You don't have to use bright colours this spring or summer. This is excellent news for all those that aren't big fans of colour. Black and white nails are still trending this summer.
Our favourites are black and white checks and zigzags. Black and white nails make a real statement - wherease nudes are a more refined look. This is an absolutely perfect compromise for those that don't like bright colours but still want to make a statement with their nails, perhaps even in the office!
Frames
Nails are a work of art, so it's time to start framing them. We know, you might be imagining something really grand around your nail right now, but it's much more refined than that.
Our favourites are a clear varnish, with a metallic frame around them (just a simple line outlining your nail shape), or a pastel pink nail with a hot pink frame. The best thing about this trend is that it's super easy to do, and creates a really fantastic look.
We've also seen a 'gold chain' frame, which looked really amazing, but is obviously a BIG statement! What about giving your nails something to frame by adding a little print onto your nail first, just a cute idea.
Red
This one is a little bit of a cheat, mainly because red nails are always in trend. Whatever the year, or the season, red nails will always work. Often associated with passion and seduction, it's amazing what a swipe of nail varnish can do!
How you choose to add red to your nails is totally up to you. A bright red on a long nail will create an eye-catching look. A more orange-red on a shorter nail is a tiny bit more subtle. A dark red on a medium nail creates a little bit of a more gothic, vampire look. If there is a red-trend to follow this year, you could try a cooler-toned red. This makes the classic red nail a little bit more adorable.
Cute drawings
On the adorable theme, let's take a look into one of the cutest trends this year. Cute drawings on nails are expected to be a big trend this year. Choose the nail varnish colour that you love. We recommend a pastel blue or pink, just to add extra cuteness.
The drawing itself can be done with nail varnish if you're feeling creative. Otherwise, a print would do the job perfectly. We've seen lucky symbols, cartoon characters, and animals, which look just amazing. It looks so cute and is perfect for spring and summer, putting everybody in the best mood.
Animal print
Animal print has been everywhere this year, and we're living for it. We're so happy it's a summer trend this year. This is a pretty easy look to emulate. Zebra print, leopard print, and tiger print especially are really easy to do yourself.
Snakeskin is a bit more tricky, but if you're up for trying it out, just go for it. Animal print always looks stylish.
Multicolour
Can't decide on a colour, why not do all of them? Multicolour nails are a big trend at the moment, whether every single nail is multi-coloured, or every nail is a different sold colour. The only tip we have with this trend is to keep the colours relatively similar. For instance, definitely don't mix pastels with neon colours.
Nudes
We're so glad that nude nail varnish has become a trend, away from French manicures. Nude nail polish is classy, and just simply beautiful.
Choosing the right nude colour for you will vary depending on your skin tone, so it's a super personal choice. This is the easiest nail trend to follow this year, and it's perfect for basically every occasion.
It's time to break out the nail varnishes, and let your creative side take over. These trends will be sticking around right the way through the summer!
Don't forget, like with every fashion or beauty trend - make it your own. Why not mix up a couple of trends? Add a print to a nude base, or add frames to your multicolour nails? You might just be the one to start the next trend!
Which one of these is your favourite nail trend? Which one will you be trying out for yourself this Summer?
